THE URBAN ART COLLECTIVE ART

By Víctor Corcuera Cueva

Trujillo Peru, city of cultural festivals such as the International Theatre of Ballet held every two years, the de Canto Lirico among others, makes it a city that not only is there constant artistic production, but also welcomes artists from different horizons and latitudes. The following interview took place at the Plaza La Merced Trujillo City. After another day of total artistic delivery of a group of young people united in the Urban Art Collective, currently headed by David Hoyos social communicator.

Good afternoon David, tell me what are the themes of this Class?.
Good afternoon
Victor. Well basically there are three which converge on one idea: Make street theater in Trujillo. They consisted

3. The first is: Keep an artistic work in the street: Stories, human statues, second, do the Meeting of Urban Art - are invited groups from Peru and other countries, which takes place in the Plaza del Recreo. The countries participating were: Argentina, Chile, Venezuela. Thanks to Urban Art has a production: Jaddy Gamero, producer of the Urban Arts Collective, who is in charge to see productions of the Collective, find the auspices and present projects to the institutions, our work is best done with this organization. The Director was Eduardo Espinosa who organized the meetings consecutively Urban Art, 08 artists are now consolidated into the group and the third theme is an Education Workshop. Projected for next year.

originates How Urban Art?
Most are graduates of theater and some of us are sweatshop, we have workshops but do not have a title of artist. Our areas of intervention include: The square of the court, the corner of Gamarra with Pizarro and the square Iquitos. We left the Square recess because we do not have permission, if you give us permission to occupy the whole city would be great.
Collective Urban Art is made up of artists, some of them are over 20 years in the art world. The start of Urban Art was commendable, Eduardo, who was the first to speak the streets of Trujillo Human Statue was who won the fights with the local police even people abusing him, pushed him, mocked and even wanted to take their currencies, not understanding his artistic work. It was he who suffered all that part, but now the Urban Art Collective is organized, it also has a producer who is responsible for organizing and apply for permits.

In a personal way I always prefer outdoor activities, there is always the best teaching and learning occur in open spaces. David, why in the street?
There are several reasons, one of the most important is the public. Many times we have worked independently when we organized theater performances and have been 20 people 15 people. Because not everyone has the ability to pay an entrance fee of 10 soles, 15 to 05 suns is costly. And also because people do not know, is not used to seeing theater and there is strong support for the dissemination of art in our city yet. Then there is no public in theaters. And then one of the reasons why we took to the streets is because there is the public. How

and when they started the human statues who influenced them?
Eduardo is the one who started the art of human statues in 2000 in the city of Trujillo, having toured Chile and have seen the human statues, he decides to also take to the streets. Thus, together with Franklin Reyes (now in Canada) decided to do street theater. On the other hand, other colleagues who participated in the FITEC in Lima. A great festival held in a football popcorn, where people are in the stands, and you act there. Then they had a terrible experience in Lima, they saw the role, was the first time I played street, could not see the public, there was a tremendous noise, dogs crossed the stage and it was terrible. They had always acted in the room and was the first time they did in the street. Then they realize the need for a more comprehensive artist who works in theater, in the street, then juggle, sing, jump ... Then come to Lima after this experience and decide to work street in Trujillo. Just when they decide to work street in Trujillo, there was another theater friend who was also making statues, and statues that were proposed regionalist. Then one day magically agree, José Urtiaga friend who was working with Douglas Chaton. They were here in the middle of Leslie Square, Yonel, and I (David) we do Eduardo Espinosa Theatre and just returned from a tour across the mountains to do street theater. At the end of the day we met here in this statue and decided to form the Urban Art Collective. Who

eligible for the Class?
The main requirement for joining the Collective is: Responsibility; want to do, be and do. The call is open to all theater students, students from the workshops of the universities to come. They have a scenario that will always be public, which is the street with a group of friends who are artists that they will require to be better artists.
Elections are every two years, rotate positions, so it looks for the Class members to grow and learn to deal with the authorities, institutions, media and the public.

In my travels in South American countries, in France and recently in Canada, I was able to rescue the positive side of the operation of public spaces by artists and avant-garde visionaries. It is most always part of my chronicles. Trujillo lives this metamorphosis, for some people something positive and others negative. You who are part and lead this group of creative artists, tell me that economically, you bring in the economic process chain Trujillo Product?
The Art of the statues, like you say, there is much of cities around the world and especially in the major capitals of the 05 countries in continents. We believe that this project can promote this initiative by the Municipality which is to close the streets. If people say I'm going to see theater, I'll see statues, I'll see art, then they will have a reason to travel on these streets and a consequence of this will be to visit shops Jr. Pizarro. This rag will become a cultural tour. You enter a coffee drink, and talk of what you've seen, if you need something you go to malls that are in this rag. Trujillo
promotes itself as a cultural city, then a person living in Lima, Chiclayo, Cajamarca, Trujillo hopes when it comes to seeing culture. So if you come and see culture are not disappointed. But if you really come and see a cultural activity that exists then return home with a different perspective of what is Trujillo. In Trujillo the art is restricted almost underground, hidden. Before there was a cultural agenda, but now no longer exists.

David, I personally have followed quite closely their artistic, I have been participating in events and even altruistic in academic activities, but you have spoken with an artistic quality and performance of international quality. I have been involved in adopting an animal Campaign Animal Refuge moche the countryside as well as the Second National Symposium on Rock Art. How does participating in these events?
We had the support of Melissa Apt Massat, who we are funded our participation in the presentation of the educational project "The past brings us to the future" in the agenda of the Second National Symposium on Rock Art in 2006. We are happy, our creativity, our voice, our body, our artistic work, is given to education, human development, the development of society. The street work is not profitable, clearly is a nonprofit project. But if there is a company that says, "I I support the development of ecology "posh, signed an agreement where Urban Arts Collective makes a presentation every Wednesday in the Plaza El Recreo talk of ecology. But privately it solves. Or perhaps if the municipality wants to bring education to rural areas, we developed a project artistitico education to teach reading to children in rural areas can do but it is necessary to cover these investments. I think for a moment that connection Institution - Arts, will give at some point.

"project for this year have in mind?
For two years we have been meeting with Urban Art. And this year we put a challenge. A festival of human statues that we have seen fit to call THE STATUES FESTI. The Festi Statues involves filling Pizarro Street from the Plaza de Armas to the Plaza El Recreo with statues. Summon the artists who make this art, come to Trujillo and Competition takes a prize and be recognized. I think we need to acknowledge the work of artists.

What is the position of public institutions in this regard?
What I hope is that the municipality and if possible the regional government, dialogue with the artists, and agree to develop projects. We know that there are much more basic needs stronger and more urgent. But all this problem that exists with the Association of Pizarro Jr. traders could be solved with projects that bring life to this rag and make people come. The FESTIESTATUA intended that aims to stimulate these blocks, which is not just a great trail, but a place where people can come, look, enjoy shopping.

Urban Art is also formed in front of a claim needs art on the street, to show that art is not about cursing, insult people or coactarte to pay something. Art is beauty, is a pure message, is education, helps you realize things. So is a return, because the public realizes he is getting something that can help you change your life, or are simply looking beautiful and not a "you collaborate or else I will do something" as they usually do certain individuals get balloons in the back and breasts.

What are your expectations for this FESTI STATUE?
We hope you will come all the artists are contributing to the project of closing the streets. We have one of the Plazas de Armas Peru's largest and there are several artists involved with performances. The purpose of Art in the streets is not something superficial, but rather, is to carry a message, rescue cultural values, praising our cultural identity. Hence, it has a whole repertoire of Peruvian stamps. Gustavo Ramos, a member of the Collective, is Peruvian characters who preform. He has made mochicas characters, his latest production has done is the hippogriff who is in the coat of Trujillo. What we seek is to awaken a regional identity. In 2005 we did the Christmas Statues draft, where each birth was a region of Peru. Then the public will not come to see an elf or Santa Claus red, but Peruvian prints. This is how we try to reclaim our identity. The posh, was that people said was full of satisfaction: that posh watch this!
Thus we show (Not our goal) in the provinces can do the same and even better projects in the capital. We are at the same level of cultural cities in the world. The Peruvian has to take off the prejudice of third world and said and said you can do things.

For FESTIESTATUA have strong support from the municipality of Trujillo, which will give us permission which ensures and guarantees the participation of the artist in the street. Now we are in the planning stage, visiting companies to address what the poster and accommodation for artists. The award will be in cash. The first will take S /. 1000. 00 the second and third S/500.00 300.00 Which will the registration of participants.

David, a final word to end this interview right now .
Urban Art has the best wishes of the Arts in Peru to trigger. The artist is willing to give his life for art and the message is that a strong support for the culture, that a decree of support for the arts in the street, to support them, care for.
In Trujillo there is a school of theater, painting, music, but when they come, what do they do? Then there must be strong support for culture by the state to subsidize projects of socio-cultural. I mention something, kiosk lady here that has nothing to do with the cultural spectrum, has given us his kiosk for use as a dressing room, but sees the importance of the artist and gives us his booth and we do not charge anything. Like the people who appreciate our art, comes to our defense when local police sometimes come to us to show the permit. Thank

David
